Fitter, Happier and More Productive

Only the Conservative Party could manage to alienate the Business Lobby over a proposal to cut government bureaucracy. I bet Ollie Letwin thought he was safe hacking away at the DTI. After all, a department of trade and industry could hardly be useful in a country devoid of both trade and industry. Unfortunately, the CBI felt that a voice for business in government might not be such a laughable idea after all.

That said, a government opens themselves up to sharp criticism if ideas like this ODPM team are the best they can come up with. I am waiting for the day the Home Office sets up a team looking into youth gang culture and call it G-Unit.

Svensational

An age since I blogged. All to do with leaving Westminster and beginning my new life in policy. I don't want go on about it now, but it is pretty fantastic. No. What I want is a brief word about is Sven. The problem is not the FA; it's Sven's money and free time. He has too much of both.

I am no leveller, I just think his four million sterling per annum is a little too much for a part-time job. How long was the European Championships? Four weeks? And then the FA give him a secretary! Of course she is going to end up doing something other than her job description. Who does Sven have to write letters to? More to the point what is Sven so busy doing that he can't write his own letters. Not that he should go, mind.
